How do I add documents to an existing contract?
This article explains how to add additional documents to a contract that already exists in the ContractHero platform.
This is especially helpful when a contract needs to be supplemented with additional materials.
1) Requirements for adding documents
- You need edit permissions for the respective contract.
- The new documents must be available on your computer or a connected storage location, as they will be uploaded from there.
- This is also the only way to upload non-PDF documents to ContractHero.
- Supported file types: PDF, Word, Excel, image, and PowerPoint formats. Up to 50 files with a total size of 256 MB.
Important: ContractHero AI will not analyze these documents. For AI analysis, you must upload PDFs as attachments. (If you want to view the article about attachments, click the word “Attachment”.)
Typical use cases:
- A contract has been supplemented with additional documents and these are now available.
- Additional agreements, amendments, or correspondence should be stored directly with the main contract, but they don’t have deadlines or data that require their own contract data sheet. You just want the files at hand and all relevant documents in one central place.
- Documents were missed during the initial upload and now need to be added.
2) Step-by-step: Add documents to a contract
- Open the contract overview.

- Open the contract’s detail view.
Click the desired contract in the platform to open its details.
- Switch to the Documents section.

- Click “Add document”.
A window opens where you can select one or multiple files.
- Upload file(s).
Select the desired file(s) from your computer and confirm the upload. The file is immediately associated with the contract.
- Verify.
After a successful upload, the new document appears in the contract’s document list and is available to all authorized users.
