ContractHero MCP: Query contract data from your AI assistant
Your contracts live in ContractHero — but more and more of your questions go to an AI assistant. The MCP interface connects the two: you query your contract data directly in your AI tool, in plain language, without opening ContractHero at all.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI tools reach into external systems. ContractHero exposes a set of functions through it, and your assistant calls them on its own as soon as a question touches your contracts. Technically it is our public API — just packaged so an AI tool can use it directly. You don't need to write a line of code.
What's in it for you

- Pull up a single contract with all of its stored metadata

- Read a specific document's text, page by page
- List categories and your own custom contract fields

- List the contact types your organisation uses — person, company, vendor and so on
- See which information can be tracked on a contact, including fields that are still empty
- Review tasks and upcoming deadlines
The set of available functions keeps growing, driven largely by customer feedback.
How it works
1. Find your connection in ContractHero
Go to Settings → Integrations → Apps and open the tile for your assistant under AI Assistants / MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or “Other AI assistants”). You'll find the server URL there, along with an illustrated step-by-step guide.
The server URL is the same for every user and every organisation. What makes the connection yours is the sign-in that follows: the assistant only ever sees what your own ContractHero account is allowed to see.
2. Add the URL in your AI tool
In Claude: Settings → Connectors → “Add custom connector”, then paste the ContractHero URL. In ChatGPT, use the equivalent connector settings.
3. Sign in and start asking
Authenticate with your own ContractHero login. The functions are then available automatically in a new chat — there is no separate activation step. They won't appear in conversations that are already running, so start a fresh one.
Important for team and enterprise plans with your AI provider
On those plans, individual members usually cannot add connectors themselves. An administrator of your workspace sets the connection up centrally, once — after that, each person signs in with their own ContractHero account. On personal Pro or Max plans, users can add the connection themselves.
Asking good questions
The assistant gives you precise answers when the question is precise. Name the category, the counterparty, the time frame or the field. With a large contract portfolio, ask one question at a time and drill down with follow-ups rather than sending one long instruction.

If the assistant doesn't reach for ContractHero on its own — for example because you have other contract tools connected — just add “in ContractHero” to your question.
What you can rely on
- Read-only, no exceptions. Nothing can be created, changed, deleted or uploaded — not contracts, not tasks, not contacts.
- Your permissions still apply. Everyone signs in with their own ContractHero account and sees exactly what they are allowed to see in ContractHero.
- Your data is not used for training. ContractHero does not train models on customer data. Your content is only ever analysed in response to your request.
- No bulk export. Answers come from targeted queries, never from a dump of your database.
Common questions
Can the AI change or delete anything in ContractHero?
No. Every function is read-only by design.
Does the AI learn from our contract data?
No. Your content is searched and analysed on request — ContractHero does not train any models on it.
Can I find the connector in Claude's or ChatGPT's connector directory?
Not at the moment. You add it as a “custom connector” using the server URL from your integration settings.
Does every user need IT to set this up?
Only the connection itself does, and only in team or enterprise workspaces, where it is set up centrally once. Signing in afterwards is done individually.
Which plan do we need?
The MCP interface is an add-on and is not included in every plan — it has to be enabled for your account. Your contact at ContractHero can tell you where you stand.
Are there additional costs?
Nothing is billed on top by ContractHero. Whatever your AI provider charges under your own plan still applies.
Does this only work with Claude?
No. MCP is an open standard and works with any MCP-capable AI tool. We provide ready-made guides for Claude and ChatGPT because those are the most widely used.
How do I disconnect it again?
Remove the connector in your AI tool's settings. Access ends immediately.
Will more functions be added?
Yes. The scope keeps growing based on customer feedback — tell us which queries you're still missing.
Good to know
- The server URL is the same everywhere. You'll find it under Settings → Integrations → Apps. What governs your view of the data is your own sign-in.
- Functions only show up in new chats. Start a fresh conversation after connecting — existing ones don't know about it. The same applies to newly added functions: your assistant reads the function list when it connects, not continuously.
- Permissions are your safety net. What someone sees through the AI is decided by their role in ContractHero. Worth reviewing your roles and permissions before you roll this out to a team.
- Precision beats length. A short question naming the category, party and time frame outperforms a long instruction.
