Reassigning a contract attachment to a master contract

Why this matters


Contract hierarchies mirror how your contracts actually relate to each other — a lease with its addenda, a framework contract with its individual orders, a master contract with its attachments. If an attachment accidentally slips out of this structure, or if you want to rearrange the hierarchy later, you don't need to delete and re-upload anything. You simply update the "Parent Contract" field — all data, tags, signatures and comments stay intact, and the attachment immediately re-appears nested under its master contract.


This saves time, prevents data loss, and keeps your contract overview clean — even months after the original upload.


How it works


  1. In the contract overview, open the attachment you want to (re-)nest under a master contract by clicking its title.





  1. Click "Edit" in the top right.





  1. Click into the "Parent Contract" field. A search dropdown opens, listing every contract in your workspace.
  2. Type the name of the master contract and select it from the list.





  1. If the "Type" field is also visible below: make sure it is set to "Attachment".
  2. Save your change.


The attachment now re-appears nested under the master contract in the overview, and you can expand or collapse it via the arrow to the left of the master contract.


Frequently asked questions


Do I need to delete and re-upload the attachment?
No. The "Parent Contract" field only changes the relationship — all data, comments, signatures and activity history stay fully intact.


Can I move an attachment to a different master contract?
Yes. Simply select a different contract in the "Parent Contract" field. It's exactly the same path as re-nesting.


Can I turn an attachment back into a standalone contract?
Yes. In edit mode, remove the entry from the "Parent Contract" field and adjust the "Type" field if needed.


I don't see the "Edit" button — what now?
You likely don't have edit permissions on this contract. Contact your workspace admin or check your role under "Settings → Roles & Permissions".


Good to know


  • The change takes effect immediately — no need to reload the overview.
  • An attachment can only be assigned to one master contract at a time.
  • The master contract itself has no "Parent Contract" field — only attachments can be nested.
  • When multiple attachments sit under one master contract, you'll see the count as a blue number next to the master contract's title in the overview.
