# Contact activity: track changes to your contacts

*The screenshots in this article show the German interface. The English label is given first, with the German label in square brackets.*

Who changed the billing address — and when? For contracts, the change log has been answering questions like these for a long time. With the Activity [Aktivität] tab, the same traceability is now available for your contacts as well.

Every contact keeps its own change history — from the original state at the time of creation through to the most recent amendment.

## What's in it for you

* **Full traceability.** You can see at a glance when contact data has changed — including the values in detail.
* **The initial state is preserved.** The **"Original contact data [Ursprüngliche Kontaktdaten]"** entry documents the data the contact was created with.
* **Fewer follow-up questions within the team.** Instead of asking around who made a change, you look at the history.
* **Consistent with the contract.** You already know the logic from the change log of your contracts — now it runs right through to contact level too.

## How it works

**1. Open the contact**

Go to **"Contacts [Kontakte]"** and open the contact you want.

**2. Open the Activity tab**

In the contact's right-hand sidebar you will find the **"Activity [Aktivität]"** tab next to **"Contracts [Verträge]"** and **"Tasks [Aufgaben]"**.

**3. Read the change history**

Under **"Change history [Änderungsverlauf]"** you will see all entries with date and time — beginning with **"Original contact data [Ursprüngliche Kontaktdaten]"** at the time of creation.

**4. Expand the details**

**"Show details [Details anzeigen]"** expands the individual field values of an entry (for example name, address, telephone number) — **"Hide details [Details ausblenden]"** closes them again.

## Common questions

**Which changes are recorded?**
Changes to the contact data — from the name and the address fields through to fields from your contact field builder [Kontaktfeldbaukasten]. The history starts with the original state at the time of creation.

**Do I see the history for all contacts?**
You see the Activity [Aktivität] tab on all contacts you have access to — the usual visibility rules for contacts apply here as well.

**Can I restore an earlier state?**
The history documents changes, but it is not a restore function. You can take earlier values from the details and reset them manually if required.

**Where do I find the contact's contracts and tasks?**
In the same right-hand sidebar — the "Contracts [Verträge]" and "Tasks [Aufgaben]" tabs show all of the contact's links.

## Good to know

* **Useful for contact maintenance too:** before merging duplicates it is worth taking a look at the history of both contacts — that way no information is lost.
* **Complements the contract change log:** you will still find contract changes on the contract itself; the Activity [Aktivität] tab on the contact concerns the contact data.
